Sorry – more Qs that comments:
Are you deliberately leaving out discussion of what *you* want to mean by “connectivism” until the first week of the course? To stimulate discussion & lateral interpretation?
Is there a particular reason you have staged it by weeks? Can people come & go choosing different weeks or is there a cumulative flow?
How will the synchronous sessions mesh with the asynchronous?

    More later ;-)

Thank goodness, finally something to sink the teeth into. I have been playing around with the design of various practical connectivist knowledge frameworks, but hard to explore in depth without the network. I had a brief trial run earlier this year with a type of connective knowledge experiment run by Cisco Systems – the I-Prize Contest – http://www.businessweek.com/technology/content/may2008/tc20080529_968185.htm

The tools were kind of crude, little direction was given, and the corporate feel (concerns over IP rights, gaming the contest etc.) held it back from being all it could be, but the collective knowledge building aspects were very real and powerful. Would love to explore something similar in a more “friendly” and open environment.

Trevor, I followed your link and that was interesting. Like you I am looking for a practical example to use as an “object-to-think-with”… something big enough to work but contained enough to be a model to study. Any ideas? I’m looking forward to the course in January of next year which may in itself provide that model.

I am somewhat confused. How is this course going to work if we are not registered as students with U of Manitoba? do we still have access to their Moodle, etc? I don’t think so, or am I wrong? Where do we participate, or do we simply read the available public discussions wherever they may be?

I have been trying and get invalid login every time, then when I go to change password I receive an email without the neccessary password to do the reset!

It is an interesting course, the most interesting subject is then what is the conclusion of the duscussed topics at the end of course, hopefully a lot of participants would like to up load their conclusion. Otherwise this course will not be optimal
