Title:
SocialLearn: learning about new ways of learning

Overview:
The advent of new technologies can be seen as the medium through which new social processes are being brought to bear. These include democratisation, the removal of filters and the liberation of content. All of these have profound implications for education, which like many other industries will need to find new ways of operating in a connected, digital world. The Open University has initiated a project, SocialLearn to develop an open API, social network for learning. This can be seen as an institutional attempt to understand and engage with the changes that are happening for learners. I will outline the project, and some of the broader issues facing higher education.
